Barcelona City Council will fund the project with 100,000 euros removal of landmines in Western Sahara developing the United Nations Organization (UNO), according to the session in a press release.
Commissioner for International Cooperation, Manel Vila, and the director of UNMAS, the Mine Action Service of the UN Mine, Maxwell Kerley, today signed the agreement in New York to finance the project.
The 100,000 euros which will provide the City of Barcelona to the project between 2010 and 2011 accounts for 46.03% of the total budget, which is 217,231 euros.
Since 2006 the United Nations is taking action in this area of \u200b\u200bthe Sahara, tracking, signaling and identifying hazardous areas, which represent a risk for people living there.
Barcelona signed the first agreement with UNMAS in 2008 for demining activities in Mozambique.Desde 10 years ago supports the campaign by Gervasio Sanchez and NGOs involved in the removal of landmines worldwide.
