Immigration (Morocco and Human Rights)
By: CARLOS BENITEZ Villodre
The Alawite government refuses to accept sub-Saharan immigrants in their country. The Moroccan police carried out regularly, violent raids on villages and slums on the outskirts of the cities of the kingdom, with the sole purpose of catching, without any reasonable explanation, immigrants and refugees to leave later abandoned desert without any nothing. Only hunger, cold and rain accompanying them.
Among those arrested are always babies, children, women, including pregnant and elderly, and persons seeking political asylum in this country in the Maghreb. Furthermore, sick people are prohibited from carrying with them the medication they have prescribed.
When arrested, or even allowed to take their most essential belongings, and when these arrests were made overnight many of them have to go in his underwear.
busloads of immigrants and refugees, guarded by the army, cross at night at different points the border between Morocco and Algeria (desert) and in the middle of nowhere abandon. Precisely in these places "no man's land" are not covered mobile phones. In addition, a number of special police agents constantly Moroccan prevent, blocking any means of communication, members of different NGOs, who came expressly to Oujda to contact sports, can do so.
There are fears more than enough about these arrests and neglect, as they are considered the beginning of a mass deportation campaign in the desert, then, even Algeria, rejects these people just looking to one day live in dignity, because in their countries is a daily struggle to survive.
Obviously, these raids are nationwide, and planned in advance by the Moroccan authorities and police. Sometimes several humanitarian organizations, including Attac, Beni Snassen Association for Culture, Development and Solidarity, Doctors Without Borders, CIS and AMDH, they manage, though not without difficulties, to "circumvent" the police checks and thus provide first aid, blankets and hot meals to detainees and left sub-Saharan Africans. At other times, caravans of Human Rights defenders are assaulted by the police, on the way to Oujda, and its components are deported to the Algerian border.
is being carried out a "media war" in Morocco between the authorities and NGOs that support the immigrants. In accordance with the Council of sub-Saharan migrants in Morocco, each time they try to inform the international public about human rights violations, the authorities allege that the "illegal" attack every time they propose the fences of Ceuta , and Melilla. Obviously this is an excuse for the arrests and deportations.
Faced with this bleak and unfair, definitively, inhuman, what Morocco can offer guarantees to the European Union (EU) regarding the implementation of human rights in its territory? None.
Currently there are over a hundred people, "in that no man's land" in the middle of the desert, which has not heard anything from them. What show the EU and the wider international community about these disappearances? Nothing.
The EU remains passive attitude toward the statements of the Moroccan authorities, who claim that the arrests and subsequent shipment to the border with Algeria are a response to requests for cooperation from the EU to combat illegal immigration.
face of lies and the passivity of the leaders of the EU and the rest of the international community, the Moroccan government with the blessing of Muhammad VI, continues to flout, trampling, human rights from first to last. That is the harsh reality of many people who yearn to live with dignity.
